| Artist Bio I was born in England in 1962, my parents were academics and we moved to Africa in 1970. My father in particular taught in Africa for ten years. My brother and I lived for a time in Africa and then went to boarding school in England. In 1980 my father died. The African experience has left me with a never ending love for the continent, which even now I still express in my art. After Africa I continued to live in England. I traveled extensively all over the world and made a ‘round-the-world’ trip in 1988. I fell in love with Greece, particularly the Sporades Islands and visited there several times. My work life involved being a Travel Agent, something I really enjoyed and afforded me more travel opportunities. I met my American husband-to-be in 1996, we married in 1997 and settled in Portland Oregon. In 2002 we moved to St Helens, Oregon and now have three boys. My artistic life was put on the back burner until 2006 when my boys were old enough for me to take time for myself. I have always been interested in art, mainly drawing when I was younger, although I also pursued other crafts such as needlework and knitting from time to time. In 2006 I decided to undertake a ceramics class at the local community college and I pursued this for two years, making all kinds of discoveries about what I enjoyed and what I could do. I found I really enjoyed the ceramics process from clay to finished piece and I was particularly enthralled by the hand building process, particularly hand building in clay to represent reality. It is such an adventure and challenge to start from a piece of clay and turn it into a recognizable object. It never fails to astound me what can be achieved. In June 2008 I had made enough pieces to sell and began selling them on the internet and at a local market. During the summer of 2008 I began the adventure at home, making hand built pieces, particularly my decorative plates but also other items such as jars and a coffee set. I am having so much fun making my pieces and drawing on my lifetime’s experiences in the process. I am therefore so pleased and excited to have discovered ceramics, despite it being a little later in life. My other interests include photography and writing. My photographs can be seen on various websites and blogs and I have recently had two articles published in a British national newspaper and I have self published three books. I hope you enjoy my work as much as I did making it. My work has been exhibited at the World Art Foundation, Los Angeles, California, April – June 2009 And Multnomah Athletic Club, Portland Oregon, March – April 2009. Useful websites: |
